Energy imbalances often manifest as mood or personality conditions traditionally known as Bipolor Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Schizophrenia to name a few. These conditions exhibit imbalances in energy that lead to challenges focusing and managing daily activities.
Some recognizable symptoms of what are traditionally known as “psychiatric disorders” include confusion, intense sadness or fear, feelings of paranoia, difficulties relating to others, withdrawal from activities, feelings of anger, hostility, suicidal ideation, difficulty making decisions and feelings of extreme guilt. Traditionally, these conditions are treated with psychotropic medications given to alleviate symptoms and to improve daily functioning. From a spiritual perspective, these symptoms are the result of an energy imbalance or a collision of energy from both the physical realm and the spiritual realm causing symptoms of distress that need to be addressed on a spiritual level.
In Shamanic cultures, psychiatric symptoms are a sign that a “healer” is emerging in their community and rituals are performed to help the individual exhibiting signs and symptoms to integrate the energy of the spirit world into the individual’s physical reality. Ways to address these issues in therapy include helping the individual become aware of his/her spiritual emergence and to work with his/her energetic beliefs and patterns to help integrate a spiritual understanding of the symptoms being experienced. Learning ways to raise a person’s energetic frequency is also part of this process.
